How did it get its title?
When I look at this painting, I see the hope of the new year through the viridian greens and hot pinks peeking through the top of the scrape.

What do I love out this piece?
I love the texture created by a more solid color in the viridian green gently seeping into the paper in the top left, creating a pulpy texture. Then, there’s a slim line in the bottom scrape in the left, too, which mimics that top bit. I also love the quality of edge on the bottom: there are tiny dots and flecks of color that create a soft edge. And in the bottom scrape, in the top left corner that is an island of paint that mirrors the top (almost middle) where there’s a piece of negative space that somehow paint missed. I love that tiny detail.
