This journal is designed to go alongside your journey through Closer: Spiritual Reflections for Writers & Thinkers. It can serve as a writing friend, companion to extend, add depth to, or intensify your interaction with the book. If you want to use this journal in its companionable fashion, you may choose to go through this journal with a writing or philosophy group, neighbors, or a friend-but, it’s not a requirement.

The choice is yours how you use this journal. You may start a poem. You may explore your memoir or life story to add a creative non-fiction piece or personal essay. You may find a prompt that reveals a unique perspective or scene that massively impacts your character’s development in your short story or novel.

While it’s true, this journal was originally created intentionally as a companion to Closer: Spiritual Reflections for Writers & Thinkers, it doesn’t have to be used for only this.

It’s designed to help the reader go deeper with journaling and reflecting on the concepts inside that book, and you may choose to invite God into this if faith is important to you, but you certainly don’t have to.

This journal is really a bit like a creative writing coach coming alongside you to encourage your daily creative writing habit. Daily writing with prompts can bring a tremendous amount of unexpected and beautifully surprising fruit and insight in your writing life, creative life, and really just in your life.
